AlienFoundry

Overview

I built AlienFoundry for the sounds a sci-fi or industrial track needs between the notes, and I built every one of them from a real recording. The bank holds 835 tuned zones cut from forges, hydraulic presses, blast doors, turbines, rocket burns, airlocks, welding bays and radio recordings of space plasma (whistlers and auroral chorus), each one pitch-measured so it plays in tune. Three engines sit behind each voice: the Sample engine that plays the recording, a Resonator of modal metal models that can give a hit a body, and a Harmonic engine of partials captured from the recordings. In the factory library the recording is the sound, and the engines only add colour. The Forge morphs between them in two dimensions, a clean tempo delay lets real samples echo and fade, and a Polish stage closes the chain with de-harshing, low-mid and mono-bass control and a true-peak ceiling, so booms land hard without clipping. The Foundry is the interface: every machine on screen is a control, so dragging one up, down or around changes the picture and the sound together, and a row of knobs under each machine gives you the same parameters by number. MPE is supported. Forty-eight presets in eight categories: Risers & Swells, Downers & Falls, Impacts & Booms, Whooshes & Pass-bys, Machine Events, Transmissions, Drones & Beds and Playable SFX.
