Overview

DrumDNA composes drums the way a drummer writes a part, not as a random hit cloud. Choose Genre, Style, Section and 4, 8, 16 or 32 bars, set six macros (Energy, Groove, Complexity, Variation, Humanize, Fills) and hit Generate: it writes a one- or two-bar core motif, develops it across the phrase with controlled repetition and mutation, saves its bigger fills for the bigger boundaries, and treats an intro, a build, a drop and a verse differently. Ten genres are built in (Deep Dubstep, Dubstep, Drum & Bass, Techno, House, UK Garage, Trap, Boom Bap, Drill and Lo-Fi Hip-Hop), each with five styles (six for Deep Dubstep), across 13 lanes from kick and snare to toms, percussion, crash, ride and FX. Everything is seeded and deterministic: the same settings and seed always give the same MIDI, locks protect lanes, bars, velocities and timing while you regenerate, and the Mutation Lab adds Variate, Simplify, Complexify, More Energy, Less Energy, More Groove, More Fills, Mutate and Create Drop B. Song Mode writes linked sections from EDM or rap templates, and the Rhythm Genome ribbon draws the pattern's structure as a double helix. Drag the full pattern, single lanes or the whole song out as standard MIDI, or route DrumDNA's live MIDI output to a drum track; it loads as an instrument, so Ableton Live can take its MIDI. A built-in audition kit lets you hear patterns without routing anything, and a RatDrum (13 pads) map lines every lane up with RatDrum's pads.
